So Committed: A Memoir of the Artist’s Road features dozens of artists I interviewed on a 2010 cross-country road trip. Last week one of those artists interviewed me for a podcast on her Boise, Idaho, radio station. Singer/songwriter by night and DJ by day, Rochelle Smith also posted a review of Committed on the radio station’s blog.
Rochelle is the first artist featured in Committed who has read the book. I was honest in my portrayal of everyone in the book–the artists, loved ones, myself–and as such I have some trepidation about how others in the book will feel about how they are portrayed. In fact, the book opens with an author’s note with these two quotes:
“To read about yourself in somebody else’s work is like failing a test you didn’t know you were taking.”— Stephen Elliott, editor of
TheRumpus.net“Writers are always selling someone out.”— Joan Didion, author of
The Year of Magical Thinking
One test passed! Many more to go.
Committed will be available directly from the publisher as of October 16th, and widely across bookstores and online sites–including ebook format–in November. As such I anticipate the promotion ramping up. I’m not going to keep posting every new blog post or interview in a blog post here, out of kindness to my subscribers. But for those who are curious, I’ll post each one on my Facebook author page as well as on the Committed page of my website.
Thank you, readers, for your ongoing support!
